Horse Manure on Roads Causing Problems in Wood County

There is an article today in the Green Bay Press Gazette about horse manure, or as I like to call it, "Amish tracks". The horse emissions from Amish horses seem to be causing problems on the more traveled roads in Wood County. It seems to be such a problem that it is even causing bicycle accidents.

Mike Feirer, the Marshfield Committee Chairman would like to approach the issue carefully, yet feels a solution to the problem is necessary.

Committee Chairman Mike Feirer, of Marshfield, said an ordinance might cause more problems. It would be difficult to decide who would have to put the diapers on their horses and who would not.

“I don’t think we want to open up that can of worms,” Feirer said.

Feirer liked the idea of meeting with representatives from the Amish community to try to arrive at an agreement. However, he directed Winch and Reichert to be sure to let the community know that the county will have to take steps, if the problem isn’t solved.
